  1. What do "we" get out of such a visit? Are there any benefits that can come to the average American citizen living in Israel because of it?

  2. Isn't he holding the Etrog upside down when he shakes it?

  3. I think it's nice. Not everything needs to have a "benefit", sometimes just "nice" is good enough.

  4. At least it's better publicity for Beit Shemesh than that of exactly a year ago. At least the natives are not throwing stones, spitting at small girls and calling grown women "prostitutes".

If the ambassador (allegedly)held the etrog upside down why didn't one of the machers and askanim step in to prevent him from doing so?

  5. besides for understanding a community better, I dont know if there is a direct benefit. anyways, it is one of his "tasks" as ambassador to seek out and visit, and check out the needs of, with communities with a high concentration of anglos.
I would have hoped he would also visit with a group of anglos from the haredi community, along with a group of anglos from the hassidic groups of rbs b, so he could get a fuller picture fo the dynamics of the city...

I was surprised nobody told him to turn over the etrog. but that was a pretty big etrog.

How about the Neturei Karta in Meah Shearim? Such a visit would tick all the boxes.

    2. Rafi - Thats what I am asking. Why does he need to know the "needs" of the community? Whats the point? Why should he visit?

      .... aside from being nice

  6. I dont know. America provides services to citizens abroad. They want to be familiar with their needs and with their lifestyle, so they can provide better services.
