Most Israelis see Shabbat as a day of rest

The rabbinic organization Beit Hillel has organized what they call "Shabbat Yisraelit". Shabbat Yisraelit is an initiative to bring secular and religious families together over a Shabbat meal.

As part of the program, they conducted a poll to learn about the temperature of Israeli society on Jewish issues, specifically Shabbos.

Results of the poll:
only 3% see Shabbat as a day for shopping
prayer is low on the totem poll of what Shabbat is perceived as being for. Only 10% see it as a day of prayer and strengthening faith.
going up, 15% see Shabbat as a day for tiyulim and cultural activities
28% see Shabbat as a day for joint family recreation
34% see Shabbat as a day of rest for the body and soul

The highest percentage of Israelis perceive Shabbos as being a day of rest.

Also, 70% of Israelis don't drive on Shabbos, at least nor regularly, and then it is usually to get together with family for Shabbat meals..

That is encouraging
