Court rules in favor of Bet Shemesh, sort of

So, the court just announced that it was accepting [one of] the claims of Moshe Abutbol and the City of Bet Shemesh, against the Ministry of Education and is throwing out the case.

The claim is that the case was filed in the wrong court. The judge said the issue is purely an administrative issue rather than a legal dispute and therefore his court is not the proper place to debate and judge it.

So, Mayor Moshe Abutbol won, but only sort of. I am sure the case will be refiled, in the proper court, and will be heard again.

What I figure will also happen, is that the MInistry of Education will tighten controls a lot. they might even send some clerks or enforcement people down to audit the City of Bet Shemesh educational system and look through the mess. It already has become public knowledge that the MoE has already give 100,000,000 nis to Bet Shemesh for building schools 5 years ago, and only 30% of it has been used. As well, the entire mess of caravans sitting on plots not allowing construction, and all that has upset the Ministry, and even perhaps left some egg on its face - how could it give so much money away and not set up some system to make sure the money was being used properly? Considering that, I am pretty sure the MoE is going to come down and tighten the screws on what is happening in Bet Shemesh

  1. Good news for the Jews for a change.

I don't know if you are right or wrong about your speculations, but heck if helps get us school rooms then great.

And in terms of the 100,000,000 shekels, though i have information, it seems very hard to believe that kind money was actually transferred without any oversight at all. If true, thought it would seem the DoE is as irresponsible as anybody else.

  2. From Haaretz: "It is not a fight over space," said Eli Cohen, leader of the opposition in the city council. "It's a fight over the Zionist character of the country. The barrier is the beginning of the end of Zionism in Beit Shemesh."

He is a rather one dimensional delusional individual who thinks everything is about anti Zionism (whatever that means).
He should go back to playing with water and leave us alone.

  3. As opposed to Charedim who feel that a butterfly fart in Botswana is an attack on Torah and Charedi values?

  4. Oh please. Mr Cohen, do you know why there's a wall there? because it's now two different schools. You may not agree with the decision (though it makes a lot of sense to me), you may not agree with the methods used (I'm with you on that one), but everyone banging on about this stupid wall is just ridiculous. Nobody ever complained about the wall between them and Ahavat Yisrael, next building down, do you know why? because it's a different school! Nothing to do with what type of people are in each one

  5. Unfortunately for Richard and SB, it IS all about removing one more piece of Zionist activity from RBS. Once they have part of the school, the school will naturally want to expand, and obviously take over the whole school, and if no alternative has been found, it will close, and the flag will come down from their courtyard.
