Picture of the Day

can this image inspire hope and solidarity against terror? Has Mahmoud Abbas stood against terror, while sitting in a unity government with Hamas? Can one dare to hope or is this a cynical opportunistic use of a world stage?

Is this the closest Abbas and Netanyahu have been in months or even years? Did any of those world leaders in between them try to take advantage of the situation and get them to shake hands or share a few words? Maybe discuss common ground against terror which can be a base for a future relationship?

And who is that guy front and center with the hat?

  1. My thoughts: yes, it is hypocrisy. But the very fact that he - and so many others - felt that he had to be there, however hypocritically, still is something.

  3. Actually Abbas' appearance resulted in several interesting comments -

Hamas has criticized Abbas for going, calling him a hypocrite for human rights because he steals PA money and lets PA people starve. (Hamas did its own flip-flop, initially condemning the magazine staff murders but then later praising all of the terrorist "martyrs" - I guess once Jews got involved.)

And Abbas and Netanyahu showing up at this rally gave NY Daily News some ammo against Obama et al - no representative of the US came to visit, plus the US Attorney General Eric Holder happened to be in France yet steered clear of the march. One of the captions pointed out that even Netanyahu and Abbas could set aside their differences to show up, yet where was the "leader of world peace"?
