Muslim prays in synagogue

I'm not quite sure what the problem is with praying in a place of worship of the wrong denomination - as long as no idolatry is involved - but generally, Jews do not pray in Mosques, Muslims don't pray in synagogues, Jews don't pray in churches, or vice versa, though churches might also have idolatry issues, depending on the exact nuance of religion...

Ladaat is reporting on a Muslim who went to do his prayers in the synagogue of Ben Gurion airport. He was discovered  when a minyan of Jews went in to daven the evening services.

I don't know if religiously it is a big deal or not. It does not seem to be such a big deal... except for one thing... the Muslims flip out when Jews might even potentially pray in their mosques. See how they act on Har Habayit for example, with their complaint being that the entire area is considered part of their mosque.

I would say that with them being so uptight about it, they should not just go ahead and use another religion's prayer house at their whim.

  1. I agree, I wouldn't see a big deal to it. But regarding your last point, maybe this is some kind of 'conquest'? Taking their 'one true religion' anywhere they please, including the worship places of the infidel? Or maybe it really is nothing, and the guy just wanted a respectful place to daven undisturbed.

  2. There is a big difference here.
Muslims tend to annex places at will. This guy praying in the synagogue might mean for him that it is now a mosque and therefore it will now be an issue for Jews to pray there. In addition there is a long history of Muslims entering synagogues and lots of Jews winding up dead shortly after. We have only one such incident of a Jew entering a mosque with the same horrific result.
Finally, they naturally throw a snit if a jew tries to pray near a mosque because Islam considers itself the only true religion. Therefore they can pray anywhere while others prauying in their spot is infidelism!

  3. Agree very much with Garnet Ironheart. Think it is a VERY big deal! How can, especially what is now going on all over, can a Jew think otherwise! It should not be allowed, any time for any reason and am sure, there is an Halachic reason for this also. Duh!

  4. ... "Muslims flip out when Jews might even potentially pray in their mosques"...

Isn't that interesting?! I never quite saw that angle of their creed. Why is that, do you assume? After all, are we not their "ancestors", or something?

  5. It is a big deal for Muslims to conquer houses of worship. There were a few high profile Muslim prayers at US churches in the name of nurturing peaceful relationships.
The Muslims have long demanded a prayer room at the terminal, and I thought they had won. One time issue is a risk, but if it is tolerated, then expect a war.
