Poem by Crown Heights Jewish Teen Goes Viral (video)

A Brooklyn teen's surprising poem has gone viral.

Chanie Gorkin, of Crown Heights, wrote the poem "The Worst Day Ever?" for a school assignment and it is now inspiring thousands around the world.

The poem is about a bad day, but when read from the bottom up, it is actually a poem about the "best day ever."

Chanie's mother posted the poem in a contest, and it then made its way through social media.

She says that her daughter was influenced by growing up in a Chassidic community where she was taught to see the positive in everything. She also says that Chanie is very private and at first hated all the attention her poem received.

Chanie's mother also says that her daughter hopes people take inspiration from her poem and pay it forward by doing something nice to another person.

and here is the poem:

Worst Day Ever?

by Chanie Gorkin

Today was the absolute worst day ever
And don't try to convince me that
There's something good in every day
Because, when you take a closer look,
This world is a pretty evil place.
Even if
Some goodness does shine through once in a while
Satisfaction and happiness don't last.
And it's not true that
It's all in the mind and heart
Because
True happiness can be attained
Only if one's surroundings are good
It's not true that good exists
I'm sure you can agree that
The reality
Creates
My attitude
It's all beyond my control
And you'll never in a million years hear me say
Today was a very good day

Now read it from bottom to top, the other way,
And see what I really feel about my day

  1. Very clever. But, also shows how things can be up side down spiritually.

    Really well-done.

  2. What a clever and smart girl. Evil is temporary and eventually good remains and is eternal.
