I am not sure why asking about putting a Jew on the money makes him "entitled", but his second point is definitely good..

Yes, because Jews are different than all other nations. When Jews react to a Jew-hating stereotype, they have to modify their behavior and try to avoid appearing to be related to that stereotype. But all other nations of people (other than Jews) do not have to do so and instead the blame of stereotyping, and the remedy of it, is to be done solely by educating those doing the stereotyping.

It's just like the way the Jewish country is treated. A Jewish country may only mount a vigorous defense against *existential* threats. All other countries (non-Jewish) ones may mount a vigorous defense against all sorts of threats, existential or not.

And the same goes for judgement during warfare. Jews and Jewish states are to be treated differently than any other (non-Jewish) state. Etc.

    1. Why it is almost as if we are "a people that dwells alone, not reckoned among the nations."

  3. Mark is correct in his analysis. But, if there was leadership from the beginning with 'Jewish pride' and self-respect, the negative attitude towards the Jews would not have gone this far. The jealousy and anger would have turned to some kind of respect because of Israel's victories in war and achievements, in general.

    1. This is very true. Back in the 70s, our slightly Jew-hating neighbor was sprinkling our tree with gasoline (trying to kill it because he didn't like its droppings). My dad figured it out and got tough with him and told him that if he catches him doing it, he will toss a match while the sprinkling is going on. The guy replied "typical Israel" ... which was most likely a reference to Israel kicking ass in the 6-day war. So, yes, when Jews are strong and unified, the Jew-haters back off, when we are weak and divided, they move in for the kill.

  4. In Israel, I recall only two religious Jews on the money - Rambam and Shai Agnon. Next batch, none and on the 50, a Jew who married a non-Jewish woman.

  5. Rafi, "saul/bunia"'s point is important. If you quote Peter Beinart on anything positive, you just help to legitimize his normal anti-Zionist comments.
